For example, Kosi is light skinned, so people admire her and they ask whether her mother is White. Obinze is uncomfortable with her attitude while Kosi is pleased with their adoration and questions.Nneoma tells Obinze to find a White friend and to tell everyone that he is Obinze’s general manager. Thus, he will be in lucky. Ifemelu’s parents is shocked that her boyfriend is a Black American, because maybe they think that Americans’ skin is white.All these examples relate to admiration for ‘an White American’. Only it is connected with adoration for ‘the West’ that Mrs. Akin-Cole tells Kosi that Kosi sends her child to a French school and Kosi’s child learn a ‘civilized’ language. The major issues are racism, cultural differences, and effects of a different culture from chapter 37 of Americanah. In America, being black is a big problem and it is related to racism, because a black person is isolated from the society in every sense. One can’t find a good job. One is humiliated by some. These people think that Black people are responsible from all offenses committed . A poor White man is in better condition that a poor Black one is. When Ifemelu returns to her hometown, she notices that there are some cultural differences between Africa and America. For example, her friends who live in America speak of the schools they study and where the schools are indirectly. They talk about scientific,artistic and social issues. Contrarily, her friends who live in Africa talk about finding a husband especially a wealthy husband, marriage, money. Moreover, while her African ones aren’t interested in historic buildings, her American ones pay attention to them. Ifemelu is in Africa like an American person. She uses American words. Her thoughts, attitudes are belong to America.
