I’d really like to recommend this book. Füreyya is not only the story of Turkey’s first female ceramic artist but also a window into the early Republican era of Turkey. Through Füreyya’s life, you can learn a lot about Turkish society, culture, and especially her family’s connections. She was married to Kılıç Ali, a close friend of Atatürk, so there are many interesting details about Atatürk and the people around him. Ayşe Kulin’s writing is easy to read and engaging. If you enjoy stories about strong women, family, and Turkish history, this book is a great choice.
