Beyond Sunbury
In sunbury there were many dead bodies- horses as well as men - broken carts and luggage, all covered thickly with black dust. We went on and reached hampton court in safety... hampton were the first people we saw. At twickenham there was no sign of the damaging heat-ray or the deadly black mist. There were more people here, but none had any news. Most of them were moving away, but there must have been some still left in their houses, too frightened to even run away... We saw in the distance a group of three people running down a side street towards the river, but no one elde. Up the hill richmond town was burning, but outside the town there was no sign of the black mist.
