The BSAA North American division is investigating bio-weapons in a desert. Alpha Team leader Chris Redfield is reminded by a subordinate that the BSAA unit sent to rendezvous with Claire Redfield will reach its destination soon. The manga cuts to Zanahoria, where the BSAA helicopter lands near Claire.
At the zombie village, Morio is surrounded by flames, with a fuel tank exploding. As the Zombies burn to death, Tominaga and Yuki make their escape attempt. Tominaga takes note of how Morio fell off a cliff into the ocean earlier, meaning he got to the village through another cave. He is proven right, and the two reach the beach. As they rest, they find Zi Li, who tells them she has been running through the jungle, and that the beachfront the Idol Survival crew were based at was attacked along with the tribal village they visited the previous day. Zi Li advises against staying in the jungle at nightfall, but as their only possible hope is the White Castle, the three head through the island to approach it, unaware it has already fallen.
Meanwhile, Laura and Brown regain their breath from their dramatic escape from White Castle. Brown stops breathing and Laura begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, thinking he has water in his lungs. When she feels his tongue, she realises he was only faking it. Expecting another Zombie attack, Brown sets up a trap. A man comes out of the bushes and sets on the trap, sending him into the air with his leg fixed to a rope. Brown realises the man was Tominaga and not a Zombie. Laura gives them the bad news about the White Castle, with Brown adding their only chance for survival now is to set up a fortress by nightfall, which is less than two hours from now.
In the lead-up to nightfall, the five survivors collect wood from the beach to use as the base of a tent and lockout-post, so those sleeping and keeping watch can be sheltered from the weather. Rope is wrapped around the perimeter, with tin cans attached to passing Zombies that will sound an alarm. Rope traps are made around the perimeter to pick up Zombies. Over the night, Tominaga fashions a spear to make up for there only being one handgun. When asked how he knew so much about survival tactics, Anderson tells Tominaga he used to serve in the BSAA, but left after an incident in Africa five years ago in which all his comrades were killed. Anderson has also interpreted Tominaga's comments on Morio as evidence there are B.O.W.s on the island.
Back at the village in the cave, Morio weeps for the dead Zombies who burnt in the fire, and seeks vengeance for their deaths at the hands of Mayu and Tominaga.
It is now Tominaga, Yuki and Zi Li's turn to sleep while Bierce and Anderson take watch. Anderson wraps his arms around Bierce, irritating her with the thoughts of sex at such a dangerous time. He begins to cough and she worries something is wrong. His Zombie mutation rapidly takes hold, and he takes his handgun to his head to commit suicide, but loses his reasoning before he can pull the trigger, throwing it to the ground. Before he can attack Bierce, he takes out a knife and impales his right hand into a nearby tree. As the others rush to investigate, he orders Bierce to shoot him in the head. Instead, Tominaga grabs the gun and pistol-whips Anderson and climbs on top of him with the gun at his temple.
