Varlık Vergisi is Damn, Read it and hate it.
Coming from a different religion is quite hard in Middle East area. This book illustrated that how the government took possession of thousands of innocent non-muslim people's assets in 1942 in Turkey. Jewish and Christian people were forced to pay lots of taxes that calculated more than triple of their assets. That author who wrote the book was one of the revenue officer in the 1940s. He also contributed cruelty through the government policy against non-muslims. There have been some rumours as well which says he took advantage of non-muslims' vulnerable positions and enlarged his wealthy with some of tax payers' assets. People who should have known what it had been happened in those days must read it. It is easy to catch the finish. I have read all almost in one day. Last but not least, I feel very sorry for all who lost their assets with that wrong decision. Hopefully, we will never live anything like that in the future.
