Lilith : Yahudi mitolojisinde kötü ruhlu, Şeytan'a hizmet eden ve Babil Talmud'unda yazılana göre Âdem'in ilk karısı olan bir yaratıktır. Hakkında Tanah'taki Yeşaya 34:14'te söz edilir. Geç Antik Çağ'da gnostisizm mitolojisinde de yer aldığı iddia edilmektedir. Lilith’in gizemli bir varlık olması onu birçok efsaneye ve mitolojiye malzeme yapmıştır. Lilith ile ilk olarak, Gılgamış Destanı’nda gecelere ve yeraltının karanlıklarına hükmeden kötü bir dişi karakter olarak karşılaşırız. Sümer, Babil ve Pers mitolojilerinde ise Lilith; vampir kadın, baykuş ve yılan olarak tasvir edilir. İbranilerin eski inanışına göre Lilit, Âdem ile aynı zamanda ve aynı anda yaratıldığından Âdem'in kendisine eşit olduğu görüşündedir. Âdem'le birlikte olmayı şiddetle reddeder. Adem ısrar ettiğinde ise büyü ile kaçar ve onu terk eder. Melekler geri getirmek için Lilit'i bulur ama kendisi Samael ile birlikte olduğundan 100 den fazla cin çocuğu olduğunu, bu nedenle artık Adem'e sadık olamayacağını bildirir. Bu arada tanrı Lilit'i durdurmak için üç melek gönderir. Melekler Lilit'e eğer geri dönmezse her gün bir çocuğunu öldüreceklerini söylerler ve geri dönmediği, tanrıya ve Adem’e itaat etmediği her gün için bir çocuğunu öldürürler. Bunun üzerine Lilit, Âdem ve Havva'nın soyundan gelenlerin çocuklarını öldürmeye başlar. Rivayete göre, erkekleri doğduktan 8 gün, kızları ise 20 gün içinde öldürmeye çalışır. Bugün dünyada var olduğuna inanılan cinler Âdem ve Lilit'in ve Tuval Kabil eşi Naama'ın birlikteliğinden meydana gelmiştir. Âdem ve Havva'nın sınırlı hayat ile lanetlenmeden önce, cenneti terk ettiğinden ölümsüzdür. Lilith'den sonra Tanrı, ismi bilinmeyen bir başka eş daha yaratır ve Âdem'de bu yaratılışı seyreder. Gördüklerinden çok etkilenir, yeni eşi kabul etmez. Üçüncü olarak, daha sonra Âdem'i uyutur ve kaburga kemiğinden Havva'yı yaratır. Havva, Adem'in bir parçasından yaratıldığından ona tabi olur.
