Alexander was still not satisfied although he had conquered most of the known world in his day. He always stood up for the challenge and galvanized his troops whenever they were ready to give up on the campaign and return to their home in Macedonia. It was again these soldiers that Alexander couldn't proceed further into the east from India since he failed to convince his men to battle forwards.
Alexander was born into a family that traced its royal roots back to the great hero Hercules—at least that was the story the family told visitors to its court. Olimpias’ family claimed descent from Achilles, the greatest of the Greeks to fight at Troy. To mingle the blood of his own ancestor Hercules with that of Achilles must have been a powerful incentive to the union.
