This is my second book review, and today I want to talk about Visions of Cody by Jack Kerouac. He is a well-known writer, but not very popular in Turkey. If you want to read this book, I recommend starting with On the Road first. I can say that Visions of Cody is a deeper and more detailed version of On the Road.
Before you start reading, you should know that the book contains a lot of drug use, sex, alcohol, and the wild lifestyle of the Beat Generation. As it says on the back cover: “You will find some of Kerouac’s very best writing in this book. It is funny, it is serious. It is eloquent.”
However, Visions of Cody is not an easy or fast read. It is written in an experimental, stream-of-consciousness style, making it more chaotic and fragmented than On the Road. If you are looking for a simple, straightforward story, this book might be challenging. But if you are a fan of Kerouac and enjoy unique writing styles, you may find it fascinating.
