Judging by the composition of the top leadership of PRP, the military element was far stronger than in the RPP [Republican People's Party]. The Kemalists saw this as a threat and were quick to eliminate it; this was the reason for Kemal Pasha's decision to remove the army from politics to the extent that soldiers were not even permitted to vote in elections.
