First of all, I want to say I couldn't put this book down, the plot grabbed me and held my attention to the very end. I also want to say that the storyline was fresh and entertaining mediocre. The Black Box is one of Harry Bosch's best cases. A woman is found shot to death in an alley during the Rodney King riots. She is a Scandinavian photographer and journalist. Years later the gun which killed her surfaces. It has been used to kill several other people. Harry investigates, seeking to close a cold case. On the face of it this is a straightforward novel, but the skills required for its execution are considerable. Connelly takes us through Bosch's thoughts and procedures, at eye level. We see what he sees and we learn how and why he attempts to solve the case in the manner that he chooses. In some ways, detective stories simply involve going from one person to the next, asking questions and piecing together a complex puzzle. That is true, in general terms, for The Black Box. The enormity of the task, however, is such that we are drawn into the case, wondering how on earth Harry will do what Harry does. I will say that if you want to read a good murder mystery that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat; waiting for the other shoe to drop, then I recommend "The Black Box.

He imagines her as not unlike this soft dew-bedampened wall he is plunging through, silky and fragrant and voluptuously receptive. If she is the symbolic object of his quest, her awakening is not without its promise of passing pleasures. She is said, after all, to be the most beautiful creature in the world, both fair and good, musically gifted, delicate, virtuous and graceful and with the gentle disposition of an angel, and, for all her hundred years and more, still a child, innocent and yielding. Achingly desirable. And desiring. Of course, she is also the daughter of a mother embraced by a frog, and there has been talk about ogres in the family, dominion by sorcery, and congress with witches and wizards and other powers too dark to name. If there be any truth in these century-old rumors from benighted times, this adventure could end, not in love's sweet delirium, but in its pain, its infamous cruelty. This prospect, however, does not dissuade him. On the contrary. It incites him.

4/5 Stars (%78/100) God, I forgot how tiring reading e-books can get (especially when it's hard sci-fi like Liu Cixin's stories). However, I liked most of the stories in the collection (some more than others). Overall, it is good and this could also be a good starting point before you dive deep into The Three-Body Problem trilogy.

The autobiographical novel, describing Sylvia Plath painful ordeal when she becomes mentally ill is such a book. This is a disturbingly frightening journey through the mind of a young girl suffering from depression in the 1950's. How far we have come in the last few decades in recognizing depression as a mental illness and treating it with much

My life is pretty much like this: I spent 11 months and 28 days of every year looking forward to the new John Grisham book and then 2-3 days devouring it. He is the master of the opening paragraph. Immediate hooks. Short sentences. You don't even notice his writing style after the first page or two but it's effortless to read. And there are many
