IŞİD Suriye ve Irak’ın büyük bir kısmını işgal ettiğinde binlerce insanı öldürdü, arkeolojik kalıntıları tahrip etti ve önceki rejimlerle Batı kültürünün etkisini taşıyan sembolleri sistematik bir biçimde yok etti' ama yerel bankalara girip üzeri Amerikan başkanlarının resimleri ve Amerika'nın siyasi ve dini ideallerini öven İngilizce sloganlarla dolu destelerce Amerikan dolarını bulunca, Amerikan emperyalizmini temsil eden bu sembolü ateşe vermedi.
