A volume consisting of five one-act Brecht plays: "A Respectable Wedding", "The Beggar", "Driving Out a Devil", "Lux in Tenebris" and "The Catch".All of them were written before 1920, when Brecht was 22, though only one, the title play, reached performance during his life-time. The others were not even published until 1966. Instructive and intriguing as some of Brecht's earliest writing, these plays are nonetheless vigorous and accessible, easily conforming to Brecht's own later insistence on the element of 'fun' in the theatre.
