The “Extermination of Four Pests” project, implemented between 1955 and 1965, was designed to eliminate all mice, flies, mosquitoes and sparrows in the country. Together with a team of primary school students, the entire public was directed to an organized cleaning campaign against these creatures. Bird nests and eggs were found one by one and crushed, and birds perished due to fear and fatigue caused by constant flying, as teams constantly hit pots and pans. During this period, not only sparrows but almost the entire bird population disappeared. The absence of birds has caused an explosion in the population of grasshoppers and other field pests, and the soil has been poisoned due to excessive spraying. This campaign, which resulted in 30 million people dying of hunger, went down in history as the greatest human-made disaster.
