David Eddings'in eşi Leigh Eddings birçok kitabında adı geçmeden yardımcı yazar olarak katkida bulunmuştur; son kitaplarında her iki yazarın da adı geçmektedir.
Doğum yeri Spokane, Washington, ABD'dir. Eddings Puget Sound'da büyüdü. Lisansını (BA) 1954'te Reed College'da ve lisansüstünü (MA) University of Washington'da 1961'de yaptı. Yazar olmadan önce Amerikan Ordusu ve Boeing'de çalıştı.
