It has been one hundred and ninety seven days since you are transported to the other side when the darkness nibbles the earth. If I’m still around tomorrow, it would be exactly two months of lock up in Memorial. Well, today is my fifth ICU-free day and I decide my father is depressed. Presumably because he rarely leaves the hospital, spends quite a lot of time with me, reads the same newspaper over and over, cries a lot, and devotes quite a bit of his unpaid leaves to think about my expire date. Have we not agree that depression is not a side effect of cancer? It is a side effect of dying. Verily, almost everything is.
Mom? Mom got her master in social work months back. She is now a qualified Patrick. Without the issue of ballessness, obviously. However, she is now busy being my exclusive unsalaried Patrick. Perhaps shortly she will be free enough to become a publicly available one to the other kids. And I swear upon the life of my mother that I will be sighing at her from heaven every time she ask someone to share their feelings.
