Fahrenheit 451
The title of the book attracted me from the first time and, actually, the author has thought a lot on how to name it. Fahrenheit 451, the degree at which the paper burns, quite exciting right. This book has more than just describing a dystopian society. Ray Bradbury literally predicted the future when he wrote it back in 1960s. Firemen in the book burn houses with books, instead of putting it out. Young Montag is one of those firemen who does his job without any contemplation until he meets his neighbor, Clarisse, who rejuvenates Montag’s mind, simply by asking questions. Montag has a revolution of ideas overnight. In a society, where reading books is forbidden and electronics rule over the world, makes Montag, finally, to think about his work. What is inside books that some are ready to give their lives for and some, on the other hand, cannot stand the sight of them but burn them. Thus, the accompanying days of Montag are quite astonishing and I will stop here to give you a chance of enjoying it yourself. The main theme being books drives me to think whether reading books are just worth it or is it waste of time provided a chance of getting the content from 5-7 minute videos. Indeed, in today’s society we can see different perspectives concerning this issue. I think the jury is still out there and both reading books and getting the main theme via various technological sources has both benefits and drawbacks when compared. However, the prevalence of books should be by no means disappeared from societies neither by direct laws as articulated in this book nor by the increase of other alternatives by the large corporations as we see nowadays.
