The book consists of 13 stories in total. I have commented on all the stories below. 1) MS. Found in a Bottle: "MS. Found in a Bottle" by Edgar Allan Poe is a classic example of his mastery in the Gothic and macabre. The story is presented as a narrative from an unnamed protagonist who, along with others, finds himself aboard a

2/2 … One morning, in cold blood, I slipped a noose about its neck and hung it to the limb of a tree; — hung it with the tears streaming from my eyes, and with the bitterest remorse at my heart; — hung it, BECAUSE I knew it had loved me, and BEACUSE I felt it had given me no reason of offence; — hung it BEACUSE I knew in so doing I was committing a sin — a deadly sin that would so jeopardize my immortal soul as to place it — if such a thing wore possible — even beyond the reach of the infinite mercy of the Most Merciful and Most Terrible God.

The Tell-Tale Heart by Poe
Edgar Allan Poe
Edgar Allan Poe
Some authors should be definetely read in the source language and Edgar Allan Poe is one of them. As a translator, I’ve read him in both source and target language and you can’t get the same tension in the translated text. Being a pioneer in mystery and horror stories is enough reason to read him for gothics and grotesque lovers. Apart from the Tell-Tale Heart, I read Black Cat in source&target languages (others in solely source or target) and it is definetely a story to behold.n

From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions.

Edgar Allan Poe was an author I always wanted to read but never found the right time to read. The story at the beginning was so adorable because I also had a cat, and I identified him with myself, but I didn't think that the sequel could be like this. Out of amazement, I read the same sentence over and over and even questioned my English for a while. "...cut one of its eyes from the socket..." I read this sentence over and over again, looking at the meanings of the words over and over to prove I had misread it because my mind couldn't quite grasp such a brutal situation, or rather, I didn't want to understand it. And I never thought that the cat would take revenge in the end, I laughed a lot at the end with this side. It was a tragi-comic story. It was like nightmares that suddenly woke you up at 3 am by jumping out of bed. I have read the author's poems as well as his stories and in general, his style was full of horror, tragedy, and tension. In addition, his fluency in the written language made me more connected to the story.

Tam uykuya dalmak üzere olduğunuz o an'ı düşünün.

I mean, the life in the world outside these walls, began to seem like a dream to me. The wild ideas, the dreams inside my head became my real world and then my whole life.

Those hours of the night were like a page of strange writing that I could not understand.
Bernice was a Bernice in a dream. I never thought of her as someone real. Bernice was the idea of Bernice. She was something to think about, not someone to love.
I never loved Bernice, even during the brightest days of her beauty. My loves have always been in the world of the mind.
