This was the book I was most curious about since I finished the first book. Brandon-Nikolai. (SPOILERS) Honestly, the book met my expectations and there were even many things I didn't expect! For example, I never thought that Nikolai would be a sticky octopus - as he portrays himself! That was beautiful, really! I thought this guy was going to be a grumpy lover, but I was so wrong... And I'm so glad I was wrong. As for Brandon, I knew he had a dark side since I saw him in the first book, but I didn't expect that dark side to be... I didn't expect it to be sad... I thought he would be more of a role model like Gareth and actually love violence, but I was wrong for the first time. I was also happy to see Brandon and Landon's relationship. (Definitely is not because about my love for Landon, slander.) Anyway, as a result, I liked the book, but I found out that there is only one last book left in this series. I thought there would be separate books with Maya-Ilya and Gareth-Professor, but the last book will be Eli-Ava... I was a bit sad about that. Maybe they will come out in another way and not as part of this series, I hope...

Taking The “Home” To The Road
Undoubtedly, J.R.R. Tolkien bequeathed a masterpiece to the entire literary world; The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring is the first book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which begins in an inland area in the northwest of Middle Earth that has fallen into oblivion; The Shire. This is the home of the Hobbits who live in peace

In 1943, a scientist, at one remove from the world of biology, gave a series of lectures in Dublin - called provocatively ‘What Is Life?’. Erwin Schrödinger, had shared the Nobel prize in physics in 1933 for laying the foundations of wave mechanics. In his Dublin lectures, Schrödinger addressed what puzzled many students — why biology was treated

This is a very different book from A Brief History of Time. Hawking notes he doesn’t want to write an autobiography, and puts off people who try to persuade him by saying he’s “considering it” when he’s just avoiding it. I actually think this reads a bit like an autobiography; half of it is devoted to childhood anecdotes, why he got into physics,

I really like Harari. I like his books a lot, but I think that is at least in part due to how much I like him. He seems like an intelligent, intuitive and empathetic person, and so his books become all those things. 21 Lessons for the 21st Century is really a book about where we are and how we can move forward. It bridges the gap between Sapiens, which was about our past, and Homo Deus, which is about our future. Here, Harari looks at where we stand technologically and politically, debunking myths and suggesting ways we can combat "post-truth". I especially like how he reminds us that fake news is just a rebranding of age-old lying, and that terrorism is only as powerful as we let it be. Terrorists are fundamentally weak but use scare tactics to raise havoc. If we refuse to be scared by them, they cease to have power. Harari's writing remains so accessible throughout his three books. He takes on complex political and economic concepts and breaks them down so anyone can understand them. It reads like common sense. I would have no problem recommending this to any person of any age - it is both easy to digest and extremely engaging. Harari's opinions do come into play in this book, more so than in Sapiens, but I think he comes across as very non-judgemental. He understands that he is just one person with opinions out of billions of people with opinions, and he ultimately concludes that the one thing we could all do with a little more of is humility. I agree.

After the long philosophical rambling disguised as a novel that was the last book, I hadn't much interest in continuing the series. Yet, the trailer came out for the new Dune movie, and I had a choice, reread the first Dune novel or continue the series. With only two books left written by the father, it seemed a shame to leave it unfinished.

Considering that The Lord of the Rings is one of the most popular books of the last century, it's surprising to see how few reviews there are here. I get the impression that many people feel guilty about liking it. It's a phase you go through, and the less said about it, the better. I think this is unfair to the book, which, I am

At the beginning of this year part of my vague reading plan was to reread the original Foundation Trilogy then move on to the subsequent unread Foundation books that Asimov wrote during the 80s, 30 years after the last book of the trilogy, Second Foundation. I never got around to reading these later volumes for reasons that I already explained in

It's 2114, and Al Gore's vision has come to fruition: All art is sanitized for your protection; everything is bland and environmentally, ergonomically and politically correct. Yuppie-of-the-future Allen Purcell is set to take over as director of Telemedia, a giant edutainment conglomerate responsible for producing a steady diet of pap programming to keep the population from thinking too hard (sort of like Fox). Things are definitely looking up for Purcell and his heavily tranquilized wife, Janet. So why does he subconsciously commit subversive pranks against society, such as defacing (beheading, rather) a venerated statue of a military leader? I wonder if Terry Gilliam ever read Philip K. Dick. Parts of "The Man Who Japed" are reminiscent of "Brazil." PKD pulls off the odd feat of being simultaneously ahead of his time and goofily dated. He remains in print and continues to be read and critically appreciated because his writing was more psychologically and philosophically complex than much of the science fiction by his contemporaries in the '50s and '60s. But Dick's novels remain firmly rooted in the martinis-n-cigarettes aesthetic of the Esquivel Space Age Lounge. Which is part of their charm to me.

This is a lovely collection of stories that served as an inspiration for the series Electric Dreams. Consisting of ten stories, this book is a great insight into Philip K. Dick's shorter prose works. Some of these stories fall more into macabre/horror genre (with a distinct Twilight Zone vibe) than into science fiction (as the title would

This turned out to be a wonderfully accessible and well-written account of Einstein's life. He has warts, to be sure, but he's quite human. He was also a superstar for his time. A real rockstar. E=MC squared, you know? I've seen documentaries, too, even read his General Relativity when I was young, and I've had a grand ole

English review below...
