3/5 Stars (%63/100) Probably the longest and the most detailed anthology kind of book that I've read regarding Japanese myths and legends. It starts with the creation myth and the things that are known to people. (People who are not particularly interested in mythology but heard of them) Then, things get a little crazy. What I mean by crazy is that even though there are many chapters that split the subjects or characters the book is still somewhat complicated to read. It becomes especially hard when the author states his opinions. (which he does a lot by the way.) The thing that bothered me and many people is the author. I know that the book is originally written in early 20th century but the author is extremely visible in the book. Other than that, the narration in general was a bit dull and boring. The best thing about the book is that there are A LOT of materials to work on. I've learned many things. (Even though they are on surface level.) It forces or encourages you to research more about that particular character or subject. In general, it is a good source, but not very successful or sufficient.
