According to the memoirs of a cinema owner, Kemal Atatürk was not happy when he noticed that the Ankara theatre where he went to see a film was filled with men while the large crowd of women who cheered him outside was barred from entering. He ordered his aide to let in all women. The film could not start because of the long applause from the women, and that is how the first non-segregated film was watched, in the presence of the leader himself.
