Üniversiteye gitmeden önce sosyal hizmet uzmanı olmak istedim - nedenini bilmiyorum. Çok uzun sürmedi. Üniversiteden ayrıldıktan sonra NME'ye yazmak istedim - hep müziği sevdim ama hiçbir enstrüman çalamıyorum ya da şarkı söyleyemiyorum, bu yüzden müzik hakkında yazmak mantıklı görünüyordu. İlk yazma çalışmam, Birmingham'daki bir listeleme dergisiydi.
