1981 yılında Surrey, İngiltere'de doğdu. Bristol Üniversitesi'nin İngiliz Edebiyatı bölümünü birincilikle bitirdi. Bir süre Güney Amerika'da yaşadıktan sonra, bir hukuk firmasında danışman olarak çalışmaya başladı. 2007'de firmanın Tokyo ofisine geçti ve bu süre içinde Japon kültürüne ve tarihine olan ilgisi giderek arttı. Londra'ya döndüğünde ilk romanı olan "Bay Satoshi de Kim?"i yazmaya başladı.
