This graphic novel feels much like equal parts in thirds of: 1. A nature documentary, 2. Pride of Baghdad, and 3. Animal Farm. The animals act mostly in their expected mannerisms and the illustrator shows in the back pages some of the animal anatomy sketches. Some facial and motion expressions are exaggerated as to emote better for viewers (take a cue revamped Lion King). Their is this sense of loss and pain of war throughout endured by the animals similar to the mentioned graphic novel, Pride of Baghdad. Here there is also this odd reflection of the animals, wolves and boars especially, representing factions. The boars seem to be more communistic in views, but unyielding to let others change their expected status quo, and the wolves seem to have elements of royalist and socialist views. I think more will be revealed in the wolves in the next book as their seems to be fissures in their pack. This creates this reminiscent feel of Animal Farm where human politics imprint on the creatures. I wonder if much like the farm pigs who claim they want equal rights for all, if the boars here will eventually warp that to suit only their needs? Will have to read further.
