Let Me Tell You a Story
The two ingredients are needed as when our children are small: time, and the courage to seize the day.
Having said that, there is no doubt that the time we spend with our children in the early years is vital - they are indeed 'the special years'. So consider the eighteen years of childhood and imagine for a moment that an egg-timer contained not sand but days. When your child was born, there were 6,570 days in it. If your child is ten years old, 3,650 have already gone. You have 2,920 left. No amount of money, power, or prestige can increase that number. Don't miss one of them.
'You know, in adult life at first there's just one pair of shoes in the hall, then if you get married there are two pairs of shoes. If children come along, there are little pairs of shoes alongside yours. Gradually, those shoes get bigger, and one day, they're not there anymore. And then there are only two pairs of shoes again and finally... just one pair."
