Chapter Twelve - The Turks
As the days and weeks wore on, respect between the Turks and the Anzacs for each others' bravery and tenacity grew. Small but significant events illustrated the changes in the soldiers' attitudes. Some Turkish defenders around Quinn's Post tasted chocolate for the first time when Anzacs threw some of their rations instead of grenades. The Turks reciprocated with tomatoes and apples. One day a white handkerchief tied to a bayonet appeared in the Turkish lines. A small boy dashed out unhindered and ran to the Anzac trenches, dropped some bags and ran back. When the Anzacs opened the bags, they found fine-cut tobacco with a note saying, 'I tobacco ... you papier every day, every day.' The Anzacs responded in kind. They scrounged all the paper they could - old letters, newspapers, some 'rollies' (cigarette papers) - and tossed them over. For a brief moment amid the bloodshed, there was an unofficial ceasefire as both sides contentedly puffed away.

3/5 Stars (%56/100) It was alright. I especially studied the first chapter because I had to present it. Though I found the book long and boring (at times), I learned a few things. For instance, Thoreau romanticizes the idea of nature (like all Romantics) and in a sense blames the European settlers for destroying the land. However, Cronon argues that they are not the only ones who altered the land. Native Americans also changed the land because of survival reasons (and for other unknown reasons). Thus, the land was not virgin, it was widowed (in Francis Jennings' words). This idea was interesting and the book is one of the best sources about ecology in America. Still, it is not very interesting to me personally.

Heart of Emptiness
It is in "The Emptiness Chapter" that I write down the Way of the martial arts of the Two-Sword style. The heart of emptiness is in the absence of anything of form and the inability to have knowledge thereof. This I see as emptiness. Emptiness, of coures, is nothingness. Knowing the existent, you know the nonexistent. This, exactly,

What an informative and interesting read! I know far more about the penis than I could have ever wished. This book dives into all kinds of topics from how ejaculation actually works, to how food and exercise affect your penis, to diseases and cancer of the penis, among many, many more. The chapter on circumcision was particularly interesting and completely changed my opinion on the topic. There are a few negatives. Some of the sections were a little bit too long. 40 some pages on erectile dysfunction? Maybe a little much. Overall, the author was somewhat heteronormative in some places but generally did an okay job of not assuming the sexual orientation of the male readers. The penis puns were cute at first but got tiresome after a while. A few here and there is cute, but not in every single chapter. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has a penis or loves someone with one!

This book blew my mind so many times in so many ways. It is quite simply the most fascinating thing I have ever read about life on this planet. Dawkins traces our evolution from the present day back through the very first organisms on earth. He uses various "rendezvouses" to show the points where we connected with other species and phyla
