Dante looked down at the little warrior princess in his arms, his little storm, and felt something shift inside him, fall, click into place, locked tight.
If you have found an outlet in your career that provides both the requisite hygiene factors and motivators, then a deliberate approach makes sense. (Go for it) But if you havent reached the point of finding a career that does this for you, then, you need to be emergent. This is another way of saying that if you re in these circumstances, experience in life. As you learn from each experience, adjust. Then iterate quickly. Keep going through this process until your strategy begins to click.

When digital watches were invented years later they reminded me of five-minute checks. They murdered time in the same way—slowly—chopping off pieces of it and lobbing them into the dustbin with a little click to let you know time was gone. Click, swish, “Checks,” swish, click: another five minutes of life down the drain. And spent in this place.
Your name is a—bird in my hand a piece of—ice on the tongue one single movement of the lips. Your name is: five signs, a ball caught in flight, a silver bell in the mouth a stone, cast in a quiet pool makes the splash of your name, and the sound is in the clatter of night hooves, loud as a thunderclap or it speaks straight into my forehead, shrill as the click of a cocked gun. Your name—how impossible, it is a kiss in the eyes on motionless eyelashes, chill and sweet. Your name is a kiss of snow a gulp of icy spring water, blue as a dove. About your name is: sleep.

I hated his little nicknames. And that summed up our relationship perfectly. Nothing inherently wrong, but something just didn’t click. Little harmless things like a nickname made me irrationally heated.

Pam takes a key from her pocket and throws it to me. This time I don’t catch it, and it skitters across the concrete walkway and over the side, falling two floors down. Once I snap the lock on them, there’ll be no turning back. My resolve breaks. “Pam, please.” I try one last time. “You don’t need to die.” “If Mike dies, I don’t want to live.” She gazes at his face, stroking his head, pulling away the last, wispy brown hair as she does so. I place the padlock between the two bars of the door and the cell. “Last chance,” I tell her. “Do it.” She doesn’t look up. I close the padlock with a click that echoes through the cellblock. I have sentenced her to death.
"North Korean society is by its nature tough and violent, and so are relations between men and women. The woman is expected to obey her father and her husband; males always come first in everything. When I was growing up, women could not sit at the same table with men. Many of my neighbors' and classmates' houses had special bowls and spoons for their fathers. It was commonplace for a husband to beat his wife. We had one neighbor whose husband was so brutal that she couldn't click her chopsticks while she ate for fear he would hit her for making noise."
