"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" was written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Colombian writer, in 1968. In this story, Gabriel Garcia Marquez used magic realism, which is based on real life events but also have mysterious and supernatural things.
The tale begins with an old man who crashed into the muddy yard of Pelayo's house. And there was something strange about the man: He had enormous wings! And he was speaking in a strange language!
Pelayo had a sick son. And his neighbour said: "He is an angel who came for your son." But was it true? Pelayo noticed that his son's fever reduced with the angel's arrival. And he decided to keep this old man in his chicken poop.
The next day, everyone knew the old man. And everyone wanted to use him for a different purpose. One said: "He should be world's leader!" And the others said: "We should kept him for breeding to create superhuman beigns."
But there was something everyone forgot: The old man's will. While they were arguing about what to do with him, he was in a place he didn't know, and watching people he didn't know. He didn't even understand them. There was nothing he could do while kids were throwing things at him and getting stares. He could only look around and and a few weird murmurs.
And then, the local priest came and saw the old man with his own eyes. And he said that the old man couldn't be an angel because he didn't know the Latin dialect. But people didn't believe him.
Elisenda, Pelayo's wife, turned people's interest into an opportunity and charged the people who wanted to see the old man.
When a traveling show about a woman who disobeyed her parents and was turned into a spider arrives in town, many townspeople choose to see the spider-woman instead of the old man with enormous wings because the cost of seeing this "creature" was less than that of the old man.
But Pelayo and Elisenda was happy because they could use the money they have already made to build a better house, even though the line of people waiting to see the angel disappeared when the spider-woman showed up.
And the angel's continued presence in their yard becomes an annoyance when their son spent time with him in his chicken coop and they both get chicken pox. They worry that the angel was going to die, but eventually he recovered. And in a fateful day, he fled away.
