Bu romanı yazarken, Cezayir ve Türk tatlılarının dilinden bir göç hikâyesi anlattım.
Amir Benyamina, Cezayir iç savaşı patlamadan hemen önce İstanbul’a gönderilen, yetenekli bir pastacıdır. Babası onu, kendi gerçek hayatına kavuşsun diye yollar. Beyoğlu’nun dar sokaklarında tutunmaya çalışırken, geçmişinin izini sürer. Gerçek ailesini bulabilecek midir?
Bir gün pastaneye Fransız Dili ve Edebiyatı öğrencisi Leyla Turan girer. O da kendi köşesinde unutulmuş, yalnız bir ruhtur. Leyla’nın en yakın arkadaşı Muazzez ise ona güç olur.
1950’lerin İstanbul’unda; savaşın, göçün, komşuluğun ve mahalle kültürünün kokusu var bu romanda. Bir Babousa, Ma’hiyye ve belki Zlabia’nın lezzeti eşlik ediyor hikâyeye. Amir’in tarif defterine dokunmak istersen, sayfalar arasında tatlı kırıntılar bulacaksın.
