This short story, which is included in Mikhail Bulgakov's book Memoirs of a Young Doctor, was also presented to the reader with the translation of Ergin Altay in the Can Publications Short Modern Series. Oykü was first published in 1927 in the magazine Medinsinskii Robotnik (Medical Worker).
The incident tells the story of the process of a young doctor assigned to a remote village slowly becoming addicted to morphine.
Bulgakov conveys the doctor's internal conflict and drift to addiction in an environment of professional difficulties, loneliness and desperation in a very striking way.
Although it is a short story that can be read in one breath, it can sometimes be criticized in this aspect. But it should not be forgotten that the story is a link of the whole as part of the Memoirs of a Young Doctor series.

It is both easy to read and impressive; it offers an enjoyable experience, especially for those interested in the themes of medicine, the human spirit and loneliness.
