Resurrection by Tolstoy stands out to be one of the best classical piece of Literature even penned down by a mortal. And, even today, it amazes people world-wide, and compels people to bow their heads down in respect towards Tolstoy, an extraordinarily gifted literature of all times. The story revolves round Nekhlyudov, a wealthy aristocrat (like most Russian aristocrats, his wealth is inherited), in his quest to fix the evil he did to Katyusha (a young girl whom he seduced in the past, and who became a prostitute as a result of that), and understand all the rights and wrongs of life. One day, she was presented before the judge for trial. She did not recognize the judge, but the judge instantly recognized her, and a deep remorse filled his heart. What is penned later is beyond description. The novel probes deeply into human psychology, and tries to establish a relation between the society and human character. It is simply superb - the way remorse is described, the way the fate of the lady is mentioned, and the life inside a jail. It goes into deep roots of crime in society. All in all, this book is highly recommended. Maybe some time I'll read it again and then will post a fuller review. There's so much beautiful in it, it's really hard to describe - just read it.
