James Baldwin (d. 2 Ağustos 1924 - ö. 1 Aralık 1987), Afrikalı-Amerikalı yazar.
20. yüzyıl ortalarında, ABD'de yaşanan ırk sorunlarının yanında, Baldwin'in siyahi bir eşcinsel olması da eserlerine sosyal ve psikolojik derinlik katar.
1956 yılında yayınlanan "Giovanni'nin Odası" (Giovanni's Room) romanı, samimiyeti ve hassas bir konuda öncü olmasıyla eşcinsel edebiyatının önemli bir eseri kabul edilir.
Aktör ve tiyatro yönetmeni Engin Cezzar'ın yakın arkadaşı olan Baldwin, Cezzar'ın anılarına göre 1962'de yayınlanan "Bir Başka Ülke" (Another Country) romanını İstanbul'da, Engin Cezzar - Gülriz Sururi çiftinin evinde tamamlamıştır.
