CHRISTINA STEAD (1902-1983): Avustralyalı romancı ve kısa öykü yazarı. Sydney Üniversitesi’nde öğretmenlik eğitimi aldı, 1928’de Avustralya’dan ayrılıp Londra’ya gitti. 1937’de ABD’ye yerleşti. Bir süre New York Üniversitesi’nde ders verdi ve 1940’larda Hollywood’da senaryo yazarı olarak çalıştı. Ardından partneri William J. Blake ile Avrupa’da çeşitli ülkelerde yaşadı. 1974 yılında Avustralya’ya döndü. 20. yüzyılın en etkili Avustralyalı yazarlarından biri olarak kabul edilen Stead’in ilk romanları The Salzburg Tales (Salzburg Öyküleri) ve Seven Poor Men of Sydney (Sydney’li Yedi Yoksul Adam) 1934’te yayımlandı; tahlil ve üslup zenginliğiyle dikkat çekti. For Love Alone’un (Yalnız Aşk İçin, 1944) ilk kısmı dışında romanları hep Avrupa ya da ABD’de geçer.
