Ümit Yaşar Oğuzcan, (22 August 1926, Tarsus - 4 November 1984), Turkish poet. He was born on 22 August 1926 in Tarsus. He graduated from Eskişehir Commerce High School (1946). He joined Türkiye İş Bankası and worked in Adana, Ankara and Istanbul. While he was working as Deputy Director of Public Relations, he retired voluntarily after completing thirty years of service (June 1977). He founded an art gallery bearing his name in Istanbul. He started poetry among the Yedigün poets in 1940; Oğuzcan, who published 33 poems, 4 prose books, 13 anthologies and biographical works, a total of 50 books in 1975, and is known for his poetry records, song lyrics and satires, is one of the most popular poets of today. After the death of his eldest son Vedat in 1973, he directed his poetry, which he generally reproduced with the sensitivity of Faruk Nafiz Çamlıbel and around the themes of love, separation and longing, to depths such as the emptiness of life, death and pain, and to condensations of essence and form.
