Üretken bir yazar olan Kirino, en çok 1997 yılında çıkan Çıkış ile tanındı. Bu romanla Japonya Gizem Yazarları Ödülü kazandı. 2004 Edgar Ödülünde kitabın İngilizce çevirisi finalistlerden biriyi. Yazar bunların yanında, çıkış romanı Kao ni furikakeru ame ile gizem romancılığı dalında 1993 Edogawa Rampo Ödülünün sahibi olmuştu. 1999 da ise Yawarakana hoho adlı eseriyle Naoki Ödülünü kazandı. Şimdiye kadar Kirino'nun iki romanı (Çıkış ve Grotesk) Türkçeye çevrildi.
