Peter Lynch, 19 Ocak 1944'te Newton, Massachusetts'te doğdu. 1951'de Lynch yedi yaşındayken babasına beyin kanseri teşhisi konuldu. Üç yıl sonra öldü ve Lynch'in annesi aileyi geçindirmek için çalışmak zorunda kaldı. Lynch, gençlik yıllarından itibaren ailenin geçimine yardımcı olmak için yardımcı olarak çalıştığını belirtiyor. Lynch, Boston College'da ikinci sınıftayken birikimlerini kullanarak hisse başına 7 dolardan Flying Tiger Airlines'ın 100 hissesini satın aldı. Hisse senedi daha sonra hisse başına 80 dolara çıkacak ve elde edilen kar eğitim masraflarını karşılamaya yardımcı olacaktı.
