"The Gift" is a powerful memoir and self-help book that combines Dr. Eger's personal experiences surviving the Holocaust, a sad but significant event, with her professional expertise as a therapist. The book offers a unique and inspiring perspective on trauma, healing, and the power of self-love and self-acceptance. While it may seem like a common concept to read and write about, many authors only assume that they are successful in achieving self-love and self-acceptance but they really are not. Dr. Eger impressed me with her practical advice and engaging writing style. She blends personal insight with relatable anecdotes, making it easy to empathize with others and relate to familiar issues we may have experienced before. If you're struggling with being self-loving, this book is a must-read, as it involves many real stories of people who have found a path to self-acceptance. Dr. Edith has challenged my perspective and made me reflect on my own life and how I view it. I believe that reading this book will change the way I look at life. Name of this book remainds me a speech of Haifaa Younis which is called the best Ramadan. She talked about some tests in our lifes. She was evaluating our attitude towards the difficulties we face in life. She was explaining the concept of being hopeful as recommended by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She briefly explained this long and deep issue as follows: Every gift is a test and every test is a gift.

Maybe every childhood is the terrain on which we try to pinpoint how much we matter and how much we don’t, a map where we study the dimensions and the borders of our worth.

Memory is sacred ground. But it’s haunted too. It’s the place where my rage and guilt and grief go circling like hungry birds scavenging the same old bones. It’s the place where I go searching for the answer to the unanswerable question: Why did I survive.
Sayfa 156
Life—even with its inevitable trauma, pain, grief, misery, and death—is a gift. A gift we sabotage when we imprison ourselves in our fears of punishment, failure, and abandonment; in our need for approval; in shame and blame; in superiority and inferiority; in our need for power and control. To celebrate the gift of life is to find the gift in everything that happens, even the parts that are difficult, that we’re not sure we can survive. To celebrate life, period. To live with joy, love, and passion.

Anger is a secondary emotion, a defense, armor we put up around the primary feeling underneath.
Sayfa 139
Silent rage is self-destructive. If you’re not actively, consciously, intentionally releasing it, you’re holding on to it. And that’s not going to do you any good. Neither is venting anger. That’s when you blow your top. It might feel cathartic in the moment, but others foot the bill. And it can become addictive.
