This book exposes Turkish policies concerning European Jews during the Hitler era, focusing on three events: 1. The recruitment of German Jewish scholars by the Turkish government after Hitler came to power, 2. The fate of Jews of Turkish origin in German-controlled France during WWII, 3. The Turkish approach to Jewish refugees who were in transit to Palestine through Turkey. These events have been widely presented in literature and popular media as conspicuous evidence of the humanitarian policies of the Turkish government, as well as indications of the compassionate acts of the Turkish officials vis-à-vis Jewish people both in the pre-war years of the Nazi regime and during WWII. This volume contrasts the evidence and facts from a wealth of newly-disclosed documents with the current populist presentation of Turkey as protector of Jews.

Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesinde lisans ve Boğaziçi Üniversitesinde lisans üstü eğitimini tamamlayarak 1977 yılında Y. Elektrik Mühendisi olarak mezun oldu. Uzun yıllar özel sektörde yönetici ve şirket ortağı olarak çalıştı. 2001 yılında yerleştiği A.B.D.’de Pittsburgh Üniversitesinde Religious Studies bölümüne devam ederek yüksek lisans diploması aldı. 15. Yüzyıl ile 20. Yüzyıl arasında yaşamış olan Yahudi tarihçilerin Osmanlı devletine ve Yahudi tebaasına yaklaşımını konu alan lisans üstü tezi 2008 yılında İsis Yayınları tarafından kitap olarak basıldı. Aynı üniversitede devam ettiği doktora programındaki bitirme tezi II. Dünya Savaşı öncesi ve sonrasında Türkiye’nin Yahudi sorununa yaklaşımı konusunda oldu. Söz konusu doktora tezi bazı ilavelerle 2015 yılında Routledge Yayınevi tarafından kitap olarak basıldı. Çeşitli dergilerde İngilizce ve Türkçe makalelerinin yayınlamasının yanı sıra, Bahar A.B.D, İspanya, Türkiye ve İsrail’de katıldığı konferanslarda sunumlarda bulundu.
