İstediğimiz şey, ihtiyacımız olan şey.
İhtiyacımız olan şey, istediğimiz şeydir.

Françoise Barret-Ducrocq,
The phrase ‘to support foreign policy’ makes the point that strategy, war and conflict should be designed to accomplish a political objective. This is what justifies strategic action and, as Clausewitz remarked, this is what determines a consequent
conflict’s form and character: War is nothing but a continuation of political endeavour with altered means. I base the whole of strategy on this tenet, and believe that he who refuses to
recognise this necessity does not fully understand what matters. The principle explains the whole history of war, and without it, everything would appear quite absurd.
Real necessity, as far as Humeans are concerned, resides only in ‘relations of ideas’; 2 + 2 = 4 is necessary only because its truth is contained in the meanings of the ideas involved. Similarly, we can say that if today is Wednesday, tomorrow has to be Thursday. But the necessity of this truth is entirely in the words. There is no worldly necessity compelling the future.
Kitaplar, sanki asla geri dönemeyeceğimiz bir anın tanıkları gibi, bir ihtiyaç ve unutkanlık anlaşmasıyla tutunurlar insana.
Books, like witnesses of a moment we can never return to, cling to us with a pact of necessity and forgetfulness.
