1984 is among the books I can read at any time of my life. I think it is the book that best explains dictatorship and what the government can do for its own interests. Although George Orwell seems to have established a utopian world in this book, in my opinion he had great foresight. While reading, I constantly compared the book to this period. Oceania, Eurasia and East Asia are countries divided into three as a result of wars. Oceania, ruled by the despotic leader Big Brother, who has posters all over the country, is suppressed by prohibitions and fears. Private life has been eliminated with the telescreen (a type of television) that is mandatory in every home. Thanks to these telescreens, the party spreads propaganda and instills hatred against the rebels. At the same time, thanks to these screens, everything people do can be seen and listened to. The quality of life between the rulers and the people who talk loudly about equality is as wide as the gap. But the people who have been corrupted and put to sleep are not even aware of this. We are experiencing a period when the system (party) is more important than people. Questioning, thinking, falling in love, making close friends... any emotion or thought that the system does not want and that will harm the system is prohibited. In Oceania, where these feelings and thoughts are prohibited, if something goes wrong, people are caught by the Thought Police and punished with death or torture. Oceania has become a country where there is no love and children complain about their parents to the Thought Police. Here is an extraordinary book that tells about the love and rebellion of Winston Smith against this soulless and totalitarian regime in which people are robotized.
