They say people who grow up like me choose the wrong people
But I don’t even choose, I don’t allow myself to love, to be happy
There is a wall twice my height that I can’t climb cuz I never stretch
In all truth, I am a ship with holes that’s trying way too hard to sail
And that ship needs more than a repair,
It needs the sailor with courage and skills.
Living in a culture where we are encouraged to seek a quick release from any pain or discomfort has fostered a nation of individuals who are easily devastated by emotional pain.
The privilege of power is at the heart of patriarchal thinking. Girls and boys, women and men who have been taught to think this way almost always believe love is not important, or if it is, it is never as important as being powerful, dominant, in control, on top—being right.
Every situation you find yourself in can go in any number of different possible directions. All it takes is one little trigger and something changes. One thing which at the time might seem like nothing important but actually, has the power to change everything and that change can be good or bad.
