Kendimi kitabı okumuş saymıyorum, aksine üzerinde çalıştım ve bazı bölümlerini birden fazla kez yeniden okudum. Bunu 5 yıldan fazla bir süre önce duymuştum ve içindeki teorilerin geçerliliğini yitirmiş olmasını bekliyordum, ancak bunlar hâlâ günümüzün piyasa durumuyla tutarlı. Kitaba ismini veren öykünün benzer temadaki kuzenlerinden Rappaccini'nin Kızı ile olan benzerliğinden ve sinemadaki uzantılarında Hugo ve The Best Offer gibi yapımlara esin vermiş olmasından bahsetmek için buraya geldim ve gidiyorum. Çılgın bilimadamlarının kızlarına neler yapabildiğine dair Les Yeux Sans Visage'ye değin pek çok sinema eserinin de izi sürülebilir ancak temelde yatan edebiyatsa bu öykü de yapıtaşlarından biri. Bu şekilde değerlendirilmeli. Diğer yandan, Rappaccini ile Hawthorne'un anlatımı çok daha akıcı ve finaliyle vurucu. Bunu da belirtmek isterim.

Sadeq Hedayat is one of my favorite author in the literary world. The Blind Owl that introduced me to Sadeq Hedayat many years ago and it has entered my list of the best. Hedayat's masterpiece The Blind Owl attracted me with the very first lines, and caused me to experience a kind of hysteria with the last page of the book.

It was my first foreign book I read with the book club. Since there is no Turkish translation yet, I wouldn't have noticed this book if there was no club. But it made me say I read it very well. The story and the characters are so interesting, so sincere. While you find all the characters annoying at first, you want to hug each of them as you approach the end of the book. The writer really surprises and his jokes offer a very enjoyable process. I recommend everyone to read it and I hope we will have a Turkish version as soon as possible.

Kitap kulübüyle beraber okuduğum ilk yabancı kitabım buydu. Henüz Türkçe çevirisi olmadığı için kulüp olmasa ben bu kitabı fark etmezdim. Fakat iyi ki okumuşum dedirtti. Hikaye ve karakterler öyle ilginç, öyle içten ki.. İlk başta tüm karakterleri sinir bozucu bulurken kitabın sonuna yaklaştığınızda her birine sarılmak istiyorsunuz. Yazar gerçekten şaşırtıyor ve esprileri de oldukça keyifli bir süreç sunuyor. Herkesin okumasını tavsiye ederim ve umarım en kısa zamanda Türkçe versiyonunada kavuşuruz.

In this book review, I prefer to summarize the plot with my own words. So, it may contain some spoilers.
Horace B. Otis who is a wealthy American, buy a damned (i.e. taunted) house in spite of warnings. His family consists of his wife, his eldest son (Washington), his daughter (Virginia), and his twin sons.
As soon as they move their new house, a stubborn stain becomes problem for days. Then the Canterville Ghost appears one night, but nobody gets scared contrarily. This situation makes our well known ghost feel disappointed and he decides to take revenge on them for that reason. Although he tries to do his best, he is more and more teased and ignored. Finally he accepts that he lose his former status and effect. And he begins to get depressed and become skin and bones.
During the visit of Duke of Cheshire, Virginia discovers the secret place of the ghost accidentally and comes across the ghost also. In the meanwhile, the ghost ask her for help in order to reach a peaceful death. Virginia accepts this offer and two of them get disappeared.
Virginia cannot be found for a while and this makes the Duke very upset. Virginia appears a few hours later and explains that the Canterville Ghost i.e. Sir Simon finally reach eternal peace. Sir Simon gives Virginia a box filled with jewels to show his affection before his death. Virginia leads her family to the secret place for Sir Simon’s dead body and four days later they makes a funeral in order to bury the carcass.
Afterwards, Virginia marries the Duke and never tell anyone about her experience with the Canterville Ghost. She holds in high esteem and affection for him and his memory.
