Öncelikle tesadüfi olarak karşılaştım Hughes ile, kitabını bitirdikten sonra iyi ki dedim ve diğer kitaplarını da okumayı düşünüyorum. Kitapta genellikle özgürlük ve adalet gibi konulardan bahsetmiş. Kitaptaki bir kaç şiirin çevirisi Melih Cevdet Anday ve Özdemir Asaf gibi şairler tarafından yapılmış ki görünce mutlu oldum. Şiir kitapları (yine değinmeden geçemeyeceğim) çeviri olduklarında çok anlamlı gelmiyor o şiir tadını alamıyorum, ama bu kitapta o kadar yalın bir dil kullanılmış ki etkilenmemek elde değil. Neden okuma sayısı az bilmiyorum, eğer bunu okuyorsanız kitaba bir şans verin derim. :) Keyifli okumalar...

One of the most important figures in the Harlem Renaissance and also one of my favorite African-American writers is Langston Hughes. This essay of him (like his other works) is full of sadness and hope. He talks about the situation of black artists in America and even though their condition is better, they are still far away from the white artists. However, Hughes believes that the works of black artists are as good as the others if not better. He has hope for the future and tries to inspire young black artists to keep on working. I really enjoyed this short essay.

One of the most beautiful and meaningful poems I've ever read. I've read hundreds if not thousands of poem and nothing really comes close to this. I am a huge fan of Langston Hughes in general but this poem holds a special place in my heart. Even though it is very short, you can talk about it for hours. I also love the fact that it alludes to Walt Whitman. Brilliant!

Langston Hughes is very underrated compared to other American writers. However, people know some of his poems. In truth, he was also a playwright. I was fortunate enough to study this at university. I actually wrote an alternative script about this play and performed it. This is a great play that talks about the experience of African-Americans. It is easy to read but it will one hundred percent make you upset. A beautiful tragedy by a talented writer.
