Although post-structuralists tend to see meaning as fluid and ambiguous, they do not hold the view that everything is unstructured and chaotic. For Derrida, as for Laclau and Mouffe, indeterminacy of meaning provides the conditions of possibility for politics, the attempt to achieve a relative fixity and stability of social life.
