I've read this for my master's and even though I found it good for the most part, there are some things that bothered me. Larsen explores identity and race in the novella and I can say that she manages to do that successfully. However, there are so many ambiguities that it started to bother me after a while. I just wanted some clarity for a change. Also, Irene's character annoyed me so much and I often found myself on Team Clare. Personal feelings and thoughts aside, Passing is one of the best examples of well, passing. Larsen did a good job portraying the 1920s American culture. This is an important piece in African-American literature.
