I´m Paul Stephens, Emeritus Professor of Social Pedagogy at the University of Stavanger in Norway. In 1987, I obtained a PhD in Sociology at the University of London. My research background is wide, and it includes quantitative investigation (sometimes with very large samples) and qualitative methods. Being London-born and raised by a poor Irish mum and a poor Welsh dad, a commitment to practical - as opposed to rhetorical - socialism is in my DNA; as is an abhorrence of racism. I'm currently working on an article to be followed by a book. In both cases, I examine the putative claim in many European countries that social pedagogues should commit to the principle of social justice. I believe they should.
