During the course of the interview, Bokan revealed that he had been a close friend of Zeljko Raznatovic, the late Serb paramilitary leader known as “Arkan,” who had been assassinated in Belgrade in January. He told me pro-Milosevic; forces killed Arkan because he had grown close to Milo Djukanovic; the pro-Western president of Montenegro. “Arkan wanted out,” he told me. “He was starting a new life. He may even have been contemplating going to The Hague to testify.”
