While reading a rose for Emily I expected to see some kind of love story or something romantic. But actually, throughout the story, there is nothing like a dramatic love story. The story is about a woman who looks emotionless, poor, and an outsider to the townsfolk. And we cannot know if it is true or not. Only after her death, when her neighbors found Hommer Barron’s body in her bed can we only understand that she is obsessed with lying with a dead body but not more

In addition to that, I didn’t understand why the author chose a title like that In an interview he gave at the University of Virginia, he suggested that Emily deserved to be given a rose because of all of the torment she had endured: at the hands of her father, perhaps at the hands of Homer as well, and as a result of the townsfolk treating her like an outsider.
