Like others who find themselves in situations that contravene the norms of society, we were quick to identify couples similar to ours. Conspiratorial glances passed between us. We needed resemblance. When we were in public, it was impossible to forget that we were living out this story of ours before the eyes of society; I took this as a challenge to overturn conventions.
That we experienced it as something past made the present moment all the more intense and poignant. We communed in our imaginations over our mutual loss with acute pleasure.
