His arms went around me and he pulled me close.
“All the time. As if you didn’t know.”
“I-I didn’t.”
The corner of his mouth curled. At least he could still be amused.
“You have a brain the size of a galaxy, you pick up every tiny detail of everything you see and hear, but you can’t work out what’s right in front of you, can you?”
“ I wish I understood why you don’t talk to me ,” I said lamely.
“I don’t want to want anything from you,Maeve”
I was still trying to that one out when Derwent shook his head,
“ But God, I just need-“
There weren’t the words for what he needed, I discovered, not in the split second between the two of us standing a foot apart and him moving, his hand catching my jaw to turn my face up to him, his mouth finding mine with unerring, practised intent.
