Büyülendim. Etkileyici bir kısa film gibiydi.
First of all, it was an easy and comfortable book to read, and it had everything you would expect from a romance novel. The characters constantly running into each other, the male main character always being the one who saves the woman, those moments where the female character is like “I don’t depend on a man, look, I’m strong too,” and the fact that they immediately fell for each other from the very first moment they saw each other — it had all of those things. The girl loving luxury but also having those “I’m not like that” moments was there too. Even the way they acted like teenagers experiencing love for the first time was included.
I was expecting something more interesting, especially since the main character was supposedly bisexual, but she basically fell for the first handsome and rich man she saw. I didn’t like any of the characters. Honestly, it was obvious how the ending would go. They were either going to get married or he was going to propose, and that unnecessary breakup scene the author added just to create some drama was so pointless.
It was nice to read something that reflected Armenian culture, and the book has an English level that flows easily and doesn’t make the reader struggle too much. But aside from that, I feel like something was missing. It could have been much better.
It’s readable, but I don’t think it’s a book that should be taken too seriously. In my opinion, it was just a very light, “snackable” read.

1408'in bende bıraktığı ilk his, insanın kendi içindeki karanlıkla mücadelesini çok güzel yansıtması oldu. Özellikle bir babanın kızını kaybetmesinin ardından taşıdığı psikolojik yük ve bunun hayatına yansıması oldukça etkileyiciydi .Filmi izlerken kullanılan metaforlar ve görsel anlatım, karakterin yaşadığı zihinsel çöküşü daha yoğun hissettiriyor. Kitab ise bu duyguların arka planını ve karakterin iç dünyasını daha yakından tanıma fırsatı sunuyor.Bu yönüyle film ve kitap birbirini tamamlayan iki farklı deneyim gibi hissettirdi. Filmin görsel dili hikayenin psikolojik katmanlarını görünür kılarken kitap bu katmanların derinliklerine inmeyi sağlıyor. Bu nedenle 1408'i yalnızca bir korku ya da psikolojik gerilim hikayesi olarak değil, insanın zihninin tramvalarıyla mücadelesini anlatan etkileyici bir eser olarak gördüm.
Could have been better
I definitely don't be saying that I didn't like this book but seeing all the potential, the character developments, the message the actual setting, metaphors,symbolism I noticed a kind of mishit if that makes sense. I think it is really hard to turn a movie into a book and I really think that the final outcome is not definitely bad but I think it could have been better. If the timeline was arranged better, characters were explained deeper and the transition between scenes were smoother it would be possible to enjoy the reading even more and I kind of wished it to be longer I felt like everything has gone so rapidly but I will say that everything was really imposing.
As I have read this book in English and in the UK I think I better write a rewiew in English.
The book won a Nero Book Award and was longlisted for Booker Prize.
The book was just how I expected it to be. It was kind of sentimental and to be frank it was a bit heartbreaking.
Thomas lives with his mother who has a complete control over him. He doesn't know his father. Pop grows him up he is dead now like his father.
One day a man shows up who claims to be a renowned director and offers him a job. But in the end everything turns out to be a kind of disaster.
I adored this book.
Sanırım hayatımda bu kadar detaylı yazılmış bir İngilizce kitap okuduğumu söyleyemem. Bir noktadan sonra bu kitabın iyi çevrilmiş bir Türkçe versiyonunu okumayı gerçekten çok isterdim, ama sanırım böyle bir çevirisi yok — ya da en azından ben denk gelmedim. Bu kitabı okurken bir an bile küçük bir detayı kaçırırsanız, ne okuduğunuzu unutabiliyorsunuz. Çünkü hiçbir şey göründüğü gibi değil. Her şey düşüncelerden ibaret ve düşünceler her şey olabilir, değil mi? Mutlu bir şarkı sizi iyileştirebilir ya da hüzünlü bir şarkı kırık parçalarınızı onarmanıza yardımcı olabilir.
Okurken hikâyenin nereye varacağını çok merak ettim ve tahmin ettiğim gibi hiç olmadı. Hatta sonu beni gerçekten şaşırttı. Kafamın karıştığı çok fazla yer oldu. Ana diliniz dışında bir dilde kitap okumanın zorluklarından biri de bu sanırım. Ama Raya ve Q’yu karakter olarak gerçekten çok sevdim. Hâlâ sonundan emin değilim. Gerçek miydi, hayal miydi? Mutlu oldular mı? Birbirlerine kavuştular mı? Bence yazar bana bir açıklama borçlu.
İlk başta treni çok sevmiştim ama trenin sırları ortaya çıktıkça, Raya gibi ben de aslında böyle bir trende olmak istemediğimi fark ettim. Ama eğer bir gün denk gelirseniz, bence okuyun. Çünkü sizi oldukça ilginç bir yolculuk bekliyor olacak.
